The rivals Apple and Samsung are yet again ready to compete with one another and this time on more similar grounds. The speculated iPhone 17 Air model is in direct competition with the to-be launched Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim. Both the phones are rumoured to come with a light and thin body-type, making the design language even more attractive. Why is it exciting? Both smartphones are eyeing to enter the market at the same time, in 2025. This means that the time of arrival and the idea of making slim phones are overlapping for both companies. Now, let’s compare the rumoured specs of both these devices.
Design and display: The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date with only 6mm thickness. The rumour has it that the device will surpass the iPhone 6’s 6.9mm thickness. On the other hand, the internet is divided over the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim. Some say it will sport 7.2mm thickness and others mention 7.5mm. That being said, both the speculations indicate that while it may be the slimmest in the Samsung-verse, it will still be thicker than the iPhone 17 Air. The design aims to be more compact and lightweight compared to the standard Galaxy S25.
Coming to the display, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion technology, offering a 120Hz refresh rate. And the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to have a slightly larger display. The display might come around 6.55 inches, with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Camera: The rumour has it that this time Samsung is aiming to enhance its camera technology, especially when compared to iPhones. According to a tipster, @UniverseIce has earlier stated that the difference between Galaxy Slim and iPhone Air model is that Samsung is working to make its camera stronger.
Going by the specs, the iPhone model is speculated to have a single 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel front camera, focusing on simplicity and quality. On the other hand, Galaxy S25 Slim is anticipated to feature a triple-camera setup, including a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide sensor. The telephoto lens is expected to offer 3.5x optical zoom.
Processor: This category is where both companies have a different route. The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be powered by Apple’s A19 chip, built on a 3nm process, promising enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to utilise the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, offering improved performance and AI capabilities. Talking about AI tech, the iPhone 17 series is also expected to bring an array of new AI features with iOS 19. But the current situation is that Apple is lagging in the AI race. Read on to find out more.
Battery: The iPhone 17 Air battery capacity is still unknown, but the efficiency of the new A18 chips, combined with the larger displays, should result in a more balanced power consumption profile. Due to its slim design, battery capacity may be slightly reduced, but it is expected to support fast charging and wireless charging.
Similarly, the specific battery details of the Galaxy S25 Slim are scarce, but it is expected to support fast charging and wireless charging, with potential improvements in battery life.
